1. Food enters via the mouth and is broken down by digestive enzymes in saliva
2. Food moves through the esophagus and into the stomach
3. Meal is broken down by acids in stomach and muscles squeeze it into the intestine
4. Absorption of nutrients takes place in the small intestine
5. Absorption of water is performed in the large intestine
6. Food (now feces) goes into the rectum and out of the anus
